First Time Home Buyer Assistance Program

First time home buyers

There are several first-time homebuyer programs in Texas, including down payment assistance,
tax credits and low-interest mortgages, to help Texans navigate the rising costs of purchasing their
first home.

To qualify, you generally need a credit score of 620 or better, and income restrictions may apply.

First-time homebuyers in Texas usually need to put down a down payment of around 3% to 20% on their loan
depending on the type of loan they are using to buy the home. Some loan options (like USDA and VA loans)
allow buyers to purchase a home with $0 down.

The minimum credit score needed to qualify for a mortgage in Texas is typically around 620,
but some lenders may require higher scores.
